If you know of any other good wind/weather sites and would like included, please reply to this thread and they will be added to the main list. Thanks

Windsurf Canada is a good site as well. Got this one from Myron. It gives forecasts in a graphic manner that is really easy to read, and includes half a dozen MB locations in the drop down menu. This link is for Pat.

These are what I have used almost exclusively for many years and has avoided me countless skunking's.
Absolutely pointless checking forecasts more than 24 hours ahead (if done... don't hold your breath  ).

windsurfcanada.com Wind Forecasts
Twin Beaches - Lake Manitoba
Gimli Main Beach - Lake Winnipeg
Patricia Beach - Lake Winnipeg
Victoria Beach - Lake Winnipeg

Purple bars are better than green bars and grey bars are in the dark. There is usually a different forecast between Pat and VB. Ignore the conditions reported as I don't know where they are scraping it from. There are no stations at Twin B. or Pat. If this goes down I check the EC Regional Forecasts for backup.

The Weather Network - 36 Hour and Hourly Forecasts
St. Laurent - Lake MB - 36 Hour
St. Laurent - Lake MB - Hourly
Gimli - Lake WPG - 36 Hour
Gimli - Lake WPG - Hourly
Grand Beach - Lake WPG - 36 Hour
Grand Beach - Lake WPG - Hourly

The 36 hour forecasts give you the gusts, the hourly does not. You can add 10kph to these forecasts too. I like to see this forecast resembling the windsurfcanada forecast for which ever site looks best for wind. If not, then going out becomes more of a gamble. I prefer to check the forecast on land rather than the marine forecasts because on warm /hot days if its not going to be windy on land it will likely not be windy on the beach.

Unisys - Wind Speed Contour Map (wind conditions)
Before I decide to make the drive up or drive back home, I check this map...
The Wind Nugget Map

Make no mistake, this is not a forecast map, it is a graphical representation of the wind conditions current and past. I check the Current map as well as -1 hour and -2 hour to spot the trend. Normally, I don't even check the EC Conditions report as they can be misleading. This map tells the story. Map updates hourly at 25 past the hour.

You want to see these colors on the lake...

Small kite to blown off the water on my 6m. Also winds with this kind of gradient pattern are the best. Winds can build quickly as it moves in.

Environment Canada - Forecast for Southern Manitoba
This is my backup forecast if windsurfcanada.com goes down.

The Marine Forecasts are for the body of the lake (i.e. at the bouys) and may not translate to what happens on the beach. The bouys can often be reporting wind with nothing happening on the beach. However, if both the marine and land forecasts are good... it will be an awesome day!

If there are winds forecast and storms forecast chances are good the winds are wind squalls as storms pass. Be safe!

That's it... That's all that matters. See ya out on the water!

Windytv is going to add Wind Forecast Alerts this summer if they get enough participation to make a database and server worth the effort. Setup an alert for your favorite spots. It will alert you by email with a forecast map if the forecast meets your set parameters.

For each location... set your favorite wind direction(s), your wind speed threshold (minimum to maximum wind, or a favorite wind range), the minimum length of time this forecast needs to prevail for, during which time of day window (in 3 hour blocks), and which days of the week are included.

Might be a handy way to check the wind forecast. Let the computer do it for me. :great:

Ag MB weather stations map. Select Wind Speed in the menu. Provides nice visual for what is happening with the wind. Bigger arrows =more wind. Zoom in to see base wind. Click on a station to get gusts. Click on more info to get history for trends.

I have used it for the Shoal Lakes this summer. There are 5 stations not far from them. Some station not far from Lake MB too that might be of use??

The map does go down occasionally. You usually can still access the individual stations on the main map. If that fails too you can see the summary at this link.
