2019 MILLES LAC CROSSING

Post by Dave Poitras » Sun Feb 10, 2019 2:52 pm

MAR.1-3. Best organized winter event of the year. Geared to all levels. Evening gatherings both Friday and Saturday nights at nearby lounges. Drive on the ice. Orderly timed starts with tons of room at the start line. (Once the race starts you have 40 minutes to cross the start line).
For those who haven't been there it is a 7 hour ride just passed Brainerd. The lake is similar to Lake Winnipeg and the town (Garrison) is similar to Gimli. Most of us stay at the GARRISON INN (MINNESOTA). usd$110.00 per night double occupancy. Bring your shorts, they have an olympic sized hot-tub for apres-ski. And this is the states so beer is almost free and you are allowed to drink it almost anywhere. I usually save enough on beer purchases to pay for the trip.
Dan Koenig and I are allready booked at the garrisson. Planning on arriving Friday afternoon for a warm up session on the lake, race will be Saturday or Sunday if there is no wind Saturday. Heading back Sunday with a stop at JIMMY JOHN'S for a world famous sandwich.

Thanks for posting on Boost Dave.
I’m in for the Mille Lacs KiteCross...will be # 13 in a row for me. Never in snowboard kiting shape as Margaret and i are in Costa Rica till the end of February. The «  in shape for snow » is usually none existent for the crossing. It is such a fun event, even if you don’t do the race. Conditions on the lake very from year to year but the one constant winning factor, is being there with the + 100 other kiters there.
Come and experience the event in its fun entirety. Hope to share a room with another person if possible. The Garrison Inn is my favorite place. Enjoying Costa Rica still, for another couple of weeks yet.

I’m trying to decide to go. I was planning to but my dad has been sick the past few weeks and I’ve been seeing him almost every day. I’ll see how he is this morning and if there’s any improvement then maybe join you guys. I’ll message back here if I can come. Then scramble to pack and see if I can find a room someplace.

Roland and Daniel weren't much help in the beer drinking dept. So I only realized a savings of around $75.00 on the beer consumed and brought back. lol. I did however save an additional $200.00 by using my $800.00 tax free border crossing exemption on a transmission that I ordered from California and had delivered to Pembina parcel. 8-)
